One word to describe our weekend. Miserable. If you read my last blog, apparently I should have quadruple knocked on wood. Yes, we all got sick this weekend. I have to say, being sick in itself is awful. Being sick while your 3 year old and husband are sick, while trying to take care of a baby- hell. Many times I wish we still lived close to family, but Saturday and yesterday I wished more than ever! If we could have shipped Preston off to a grandparents house, I think we all could have rested a bit more. Preston got his stomach bug out of the way on Thursday night (see previous post). Saturday we all woke up feeling good, and had plans to go to the apple orchard after the kids afternoon nap. The kids woke up around 3, and Reese said she didn't feel to good. She already is congested and runny nose, so I'm thinking, oh great, another ear infection. When I asked what hurt, she couldn't really answer me (saying her back, her neck, etc.) As we were getting ready to walk out the door, she puked all over our white carpet in the living room. Ugh! At this point, I still felt pretty good, so I was hoping Kyle and I weren't going to get it. She laid on the couch the whole afternoon/evening, still getting sick until bedtime. She also woke up and got sick a few time during the night. Around 5:30, I started to feel a little queasy. Luckily, Kyle still felt good, so he took Preston outside and played all afternoon with him while Reese and I stayed on the couch. As soon as the kids went to bed, it was my turn. I was up all night getting sick. Kyle slept with Reese in the spare bed room so he could take care of her since I was unable. Reese and I both ran fevers, and by 3:30 am, mine finally broke and I was able to get some sleep.
When Kyle woke with the kids, Reese felt much better, but Kyle wasn't feeling so great. I slept until 9:00 and then took over so he could sleep. I wasn't getting sick anymore, but I was SO exhausted and could barely function- but, moms don't get sick days, especially when dad is sick too! Reese was still pretty tired, so luckily I just popped in a movie for her and she was content on the couch. Kyle ended up getting diarrhea instead of vomiting. So needless to say, our weekend was miserable.
It is a whole different story when you have kids to take care of and cannot rest and take care of yourself. Kyle is still home resting today- and now we all have these nasty colds (which the kids got last week and passed on to us now.)
On a positive note, happy fall! We are looking forward to many fun fall activities- apple orchard, a field trip with Reese's class to the pumpkin patch, Kyle and I's trip to Nasvhille, TN, and of course, Halloween!

Knock on wood

This past week I had a friend over with her two kids for a playdate. We were talking about how her kids just got over bad colds, and I was telling her that since I have been staying at home, the kids have had few run ins with colds/sickness. During that moment, I should have turned to the table and knocked on wood. The next day (Wednesday) Reese woke up with a stuffy nose and hoarse voice. Today, she is still stuffy, and I am hoping it doesn't go into her ears like it did last month and cause a double ear infection. Technically, I should have double knocked on wood- one for Reese and one for Preston- because in the middle of the night last night I wake up to a gagging sound on the monitor, only to find Preston throwing up in his crib. Yuck. Not going into details there, but luckily it wasn't a ton, and he didn't seem to mind or understand what happened, and wanted to lay back down after I changed his sheets and cleaned him up (this is the first time he has ever had a stomach bug.) I lay back down, start to drift to sleep, and hear him coughing again. Great- back again to him getting sick some more. I change the sheets once again, clean him up, and he still doesn't seem to mind- and wants to lay down and go back to sleep. At this point, I had been up for over and hour and half, and was now having a hard time falling back to sleep. I finally drifted off around 5:30 am (after waking at 2:40), only to hear Reese come out of her room at 6:20 awake for the day. Luckily, Preston woke around 7:30- and has not gotten sick again, but does have a slight fever. I'm hoping none of us get his bug, and we stay clear this weekend. Next time I make a blanket statement, I'm knocking on wood.

Sunday School

We have found a church in Fishers and are more than happy to start attending on a regular basis. I have gone 3 times, and have been more than pleased with the services I have attended. It is Chirst the Savior Lutheran Church (ELCA) and I have attended both the traditional (845a) and contemporary (1045a) services. I feel more than welcome by all of the other members, having people greet and welcome me and the kids each week has been so nice. I am going to be taking the new member classes in October, and Kyle will do November. The kids have both started Sunday School as well. Their Sunday school is held during the service while we hear the sermon, so it works out great to be able to actually listen instead of entertaining the kids :) I am also going to find out the steps (after my new member classes are complete) to get Preston baptized. I can't believe he is (almost) 13 mo and still not baptized- but moving around so much in his first year of life has not helped! Now we are settled and are finding a church family, I am excited to look into it.

Fitting for my blog: a recent article about kids in church- much appreciated by those of us with young ones!!

Big girl

I'm a big girl now- thats all I have heard since Reese started preschool. She had her first day last Thursday where Kyle and I went with her for an hour. This past Monday was her first day by herself. When I picked her up at noon- boy, oh boy- she COULD NOT stop talking about it :) A great sign in my eyes. She told me all about the playground, story time, how she has to sit on a yellow star during circle time, and she even told me some names of some of her new friends. During the parent day last Thursday, I met a mom with a boy in Reese's class- and they are coming over Friday for a playdate. I do have to admit, I was a bit sad dropping her off Monday- even though I accomplished SO much in the 3 hours she was gone. Bathrooms cleaned, laundry done, kitchen floor scrubbed- it was amazing. Preston takes his morning nap from 9-10, so while she was at school- I had a whole hour to myself. Quite nice :)

Speaking of Preston- he is a little walker now! He is about 50/50 with walking and crawling. He will start out walking, and then if he falls, he will continue on with a crawl (which is much faster!) He is so cute and looks like a little drunken sailor :)  He is also doing GREAT with dairy! Yahoo! No more dairy sensitivity. He is now having only 2 bottles a day, and they are half whole milk, half formula. He eats cheese and other dairy products and his tummy problems are all gone. It was a rough first year with his stomach/acid reflux, and I'm glad the issues have resolved themselves.

Here are some of their 1&3 year old pictures I had taken by a friend when we were back in Illinois:
(I hope they show up, as I am posting on the Ipad- and it sometimes had issues with pictures!) If not, I'll try when Kyle has his work computer home.
